About Us & Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to our FAQ page. Here you’ll find answers to the most common questions about our Catholic mission society, our work, and how you can get involved.

About Us

At the heart of our mission society is the Catholic vision of integral human development which simply means helping each person and community grow in dignity, faith, and opportunity. Development goes far beyond work on projects or programs; it encompasses education, healthcare, food, clean water, and the hope that comes from knowing the Church walks alongside the poor. None of this is possible without the financial resources to make everything possible. Funding is not the goal in itself, but it is the means that allows our partners to teach, to heal, to feed, and to serve. When you support CatholicMasses.org, you make Catholic development real and give a living expression of faith and solidarity that brings God’s love to those who need it most.

Q: What is a Mass Card?
A: Sending a Mass Card is a beautiful tradition that Catholics follow to express their love and concern to friends, family and loved ones. Often it’s a meaningful way to say that you are thinking of someone in their time of sorrow, or trouble. Traditionally Mass Cards were used as sympathy cards to offer a Mass for the repose of the soul of a departed loved one, they have also been traditionally used to enroll individual intentions into community prayers. Stipends, or donations, offered when sending a card have been used by religious Orders and communities to fund mission societies and religious ministries.

Q: Can I request a Mass for a specific intention?
A: Individual Masses may be requested but we are only able to accept a limited number of Masses since each Mass intention has to be applied individually in accordance with canon law. Due to that limiting factor we prefer to have you enroll your loved ones in our communal Masses and prayers so that we may share your intentions with our partners in daily streaming Masses, prayers and works of mercy around the world. We believe you can find other communities of priests who can better support Mass intentions, but many of those communities are no longer involved in missionary work overseas. Our enrollments are used to support a variety of international ministries of the Church.

Q: What is an Enrollment?
A: Enrollments allow you to include your loved ones in the ongoing community prayers and Masses of our partners. Unlike individual Mass stipends, community enrollments are collective, meaning your loved ones are remembered regularly in our liturgies, streaming services, and partner communities worldwide. This practice allows us to support a wider range of Catholic ministries, including religious brothers, sisters and lay Catholic organizations.

Q: Do you mail Mass Cards and Enrollments?
A: No. In an effort to keep costs down and support more ministries we only offer electronic delivery (email) of our spiritual cards.

Q: What if I do not know the email of the loved one I want to send the card to?
A: In that case we recommend that you make the gift and send the card to by email yourself. This allows you to print the card at home and give it to your loved on in person, or mail it to them. That would add an even more special touch to your gift.

Q: What is CatholicMasses.org?
A: We are a 501(c)3 organization and serve as a Catholic mission society dedicated to supporting the Church’s ministries across the globe. As a lay mission society, we partner with local Catholic priests, lay ministries, and faith-based organizations around the world to bring God’s love to those most in need. We started as a directory of parishes around the United States in 2019 under the name of Catholic Manduction and Sacraments Search Limited or (CatholicMasses.org), after streaming online Mass via Youtube during Covid we became one of the top Catholic sites in the country. We asked the Vatican representative several years later if we could use our site to raise funds for the Churches missions and they enthusiastically agreed. Since 2025 we have been focused on fundraising for the international ministries of the Catholic Church working with the most poor and underserved around the globe.

Q: Are you officially part of the Catholic Church?
A: Yes. We are a Catholic mission society that has been approved for fundraising for the foreign missions of the Church. While we are not a parish or religious Order, we work closely with religious and lay Catholic organizations worldwide.

Q: How do you select your partners?
A: With over 20 years experience working in the non-profit field, including a particular focus on international development among Catholic ministries, we have worked with religious communities such as the Franciscans, Jesuits, the De La Salle Brothers and others, as well as dioceses and Catholic faith based nonprofits on each continent, except Antartica. From our experiences we are able to seek partners that we trust to use our funds for ministry needs. We rely on our experiences working with clergy and nonprofits to discern whether the organization is appropriately using our funds. Whenever possible we prefer to form individual relationships with each of our partners so we can witness the work being done in person, we also request reports of how our support was used in each ministry.

Q: What does ‘development’ mean in your mission work?
A: In Catholic social teaching, development means more than just economic growth. Development includes the dignity of each person and the growth of whole communities. In areas such as education, healthcare, food security, clean water, and spiritual support. As a mission society, we believe true development is “integral human development,” helping people not only to “have more” but to “be more.” At the same time, we recognize that no development work is possible without funding. Your donations allow us to provide the resources we and our partners need to serve the poor and build communities of hope around the world.

Q: Do you use AI?
A: Yes, we disclose our use of AI on some of our videos, like our popular Saint of the Day. Since we are a volunteer organization, the use of AI has enhanced our ability to create professional quality content without a large investment. All of our content is created by our team, we feel it is genuine and that it enhances our ability to deliver our message effectively and articulately. Our Saint of the Day feature has brought a new audience to our work and we believe we’re on the cutting edge of incorporating the use modern technologies to aid the Church in her centuries old devotion to helping the poor. Our content is genuine, all of the images of our work abroad is accurate. We simply use AI enhancements to help make our site more professional looking and for promotional materials. We will always disclose our use of AI marketing.

Mission Work

Q: Where does your mission society serve?
A: We currently support projects in the Americas, Africa, Europe, Asia and Oceania. Our partners include priests and lay missionaries serving all over the world in Catholic schools, health care clinics, and many ministries to the poor and underserved. We priorities our partnerships with personal relationships so we can validate projects and the usage of funds.

Q: Can I volunteer or join a mission trip?
A: Yes! We organize mission trips and volunteer opportunities with our partners. Please contact us below for more information.

Q: What’s the difference between your society and the religious orders I support?
A: We have worked with many religious organizations in the United States, and abroad. The unfortunate reality is that today in the United States the average age of a priest is around 70 years old. The peak of the missionary work that was done by United States priests and religious communities happened in the 1950’s, 60’s, and 70’s. This was after Pope Pius XII through, Fidei Donum (1957),called on U.S. (and European) clergy to serve temporarily as missionaries in Africa, and other mission territories, because the local Churches were growing rapidly but lacked priests to care for the faithful. Today, those areas have blossomed and have their own priests and clergy members and relatively few American missionary priests are still active, although their mission societies continue to raise funds as if they were back in the 1960’s. For that reason we are very selective of the organizations we support and prefer to support direct work abroad rather than to support religious communities and their retirement funds here at home. Both are worthy causes, but we are dedicated to funding international ministries working in some of the poorest and most underserved communities around the globe. By not affiliating ourselves with any one religious community or congregation we are able to support a wide variety of Catholic ministries who are active today.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our mission society. Your prayers and support mean that we can continue to serve the Church’s ministries across the globe and reach those most in need.

As a lay mission society, we are uniquely positioned to support a wide variety of Catholic international ministries such as priests serving in mission territories, religious brothers and sisters teaching or caring for the sick, and Catholic lay organizations providing essential services to the poor. Unlike religious orders that may now have only a few priests still active overseas, yet continue to operate Mass Associations mainly for fundraising, our focus remains on living missionary work. We direct resources to those who are actively serving in the field today, ensuring that your gift has a direct and lasting impact.

Together, we carry forward Christ’s mission to bring hope, dignity, and compassion to the world.
